frequently asked questions: before, during, and after the photo shoot
What do we need to do before the shoot?
A one hour photo session starts with planning - a date and location needs to be determined, as well as determining what type of pictures you desire. Everyone has a different style, and so it's most useful if you take some time exploring the 'Photo Gallery' section of the website and inform the photographer of your style.
We also need to determine how many people will be at the photo shoot. In general, the more people involved the less poses of each individual person. For example, if you have a family of four and you want:
1. family photos
2. individuals of each child
3. the children altogether
4. photo of the parents
A one hour photo shoot will produce about three to four poses of each. If you desire to have more poses or shoot at multiple locations, a two hour photo shoot should be scheduled, or less people present at the photo shoot.
What should I wear?
It is best to dress in 'simple' clothing that does not have a lot of distracting patterns. Please try to avoid clothing with words on it or one large logo or item on the top. Black and white photos turn out best when wearing an all white or all black top. It's also good to keep in mind that make-up looks lighter in photographs.
Can I bring my own camera to the photo shoot?
You are not only paying for the photos, but also the skill to pose people, to make them smile naturally, and the composition. For that reason I ask that you refrain from taking your own photos during the photo shoot.
Do you edit the photos?
Yes! The best photos from your shoot will be edited and cropped to best showcase the photograph. Some photos will be combined, words placed on them, or other digital effects applied, based on your desires.
When do I get to see my photos?
Proofs will be ready for viewing within one - two weeks. You will receive an email with the information for you to access your password protected online photo gallery. (see the 'proofs' section of our site)
Are the photos professionally printed?
Yes! I have tested over 10 printers and now work with what I believe is the best quality professional printer - both for prints and photo books! Do you like a non-traditional photo finish, ask about our paper and texture samples.
How long does it take to get the photos after I order?
All orders will be processed by LBP within 2 days after you place and pay for your order. You will have three print options at check out. Customer pick up prints will be available 1-2 weeks after the order day. Direct shipping and express shipping are also available. Shipping options range from $4, customer pick up, to $23 for express shipping with premium packaging. You choose the option that is best for you.
There is additional shipping for photo products and the photo cd as they are shipped separately.
Can I buy more prints?
Additional photos can be ordered at any time however your online proofing album expires after 3 months. If you want it to be available longer just ask!
Can I scan the photos into my computer?
Simply by purchasing prints does NOT make you the owner of the prints. If you scan the prints into the computer and try to print your own pictures you are breaking the law. I ask that you instead purchase the reasonably priced copyright (see next question).
Can I purchase the copyright to my photos?
Yes! A copyright release can be purchased if you desire to print your own photos. After purchasing the copyright you will receive a cd with high resolution jpeg files and a release. This release allows you print the photos or share the non-watermarked files on facebook and other social networking sites. See 'pricing' for more information.
How do I order the prints included in my package?
You will receive an email telling you your prints are ready for your viewing. In this email you will also receive a 'print credit'. Please follow the instructions on the proofs page to be sure it works correctly.
Who should the check be written out to?
Checks can be written to 'LBP, LLC' or 'Laura Borkenhagen Photography'.
